Bangladesh Surf Club doc, work in progress…

The Bangladesh Surf Club [working title]

A documentary following the lives of the Bangladesh surf contingent and showing the unique cultural impact of surf on the local community.

Five years ago Tom Bauer a missionary from ‘Surfing the Nations’ found a rare gem in the form of Bangladesh’s first surfer, Jafar Alam. Inspired by their mutual passion, Tom and Jafar set out to establish a small surf club for the local street kids.

Four years on, Kahana Kalama, a pro-surfer from San Diego, takes a trip to Bangladesh to see the school for himself.

What he discovers is a place that is having a unique impact on the lives of the kids who, for the very first time, are experiencing the freedom of the ocean through surfing. Incredibly, and against all cultural odds, over half the groups members are female. The Bangladeshi Surf school has brought a sense of liberation and hope that no one could have foreseen.

This documentary follows Jafar and his group of young surfers as they work hard to make their mark on a surf competition which could change their lives. Against the odds, one of the Bangladeshi Surf School kids – a boy name Fahad – cleans up at the surf comp. Could he be the next Kelly Slater? The Story’s just begun….

Nice work, as a big fan of both Sigar Ros + the film “Koyanisquatsi” (ive probably spelled that badly) i enjoyed having 5 mins away from my photography accounts.
Must be great working on something as thought provoking as this, as a wedding photographer the most excitement i get is the possibilty of a bride or groom doing a runner from the church
